Provide First Aid (HLTAID011)

At the end of this course you will get a statement of attainment will
include the following accredited units of competency:

Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
In line with Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines, HLTAID011
should be updated every 3 years and HLTAID009 every 12 months.
The First
Aid course covers the skills and knowledge required to perform First Aid and
cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation
Council (ARC) Guidelines.
The course applies to all workers who may be required to Provide First Aid, in a
range of situations, including community and workplace settings.
The course is a full day course and includes theory and practical components.
Physical Requirements:
It is important to note that this CPR element of this course requires
a level of physical ability to complete practical assessments.
All students are required to perform 2 minutes of CPR on an adult manikin
on the floor and 2 minutes of CPR baby manikin. If your health or fitness
will not allow you to demonstrate this, you will not be awarded a nationally
accredited certificate.
Components of the course include:

Assess an emergency situation

Maintain the airway, breathing and
circulation of an unconscious casualty
-
Provide and administer first aid for minor
wounds and apply infection control procedures
-
Manage a casualty suffering from shock, near
drowning, external bleeding and extremes of temperature
-
Manage a casualty with chest/ head/
abdominal injuries
-
Administer first aid for burns, electric
shock, eye and soft tissue injuries
-
Administer first aid for venomous bites,
stings and allergic reaction
-
Provided first aid for spinal injuries and
fractures
-
Determine principles for movement of sick
and injured including first aid recording requirements
-
Knowledge of the legal and social
responsibilities for a first aider
-
Identify, assess and minimise immediate
hazards to health and safety of self and others
-
Assess the casualty and recognise the need
for CPR
-
Seek assistance from emergency response
services
-
Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation in
accordance with ARC guidelines
-
Operate automated external defibrillator (AED)
according to manufacturer’s instructions
-
Accurately convey incident details to
emergency response services
-
Report details of incident to workplace
supervisor as appropriate
